5 Minute Antioxidant Smoothie for Glowing Skin

blueberries, raspberries, kale, banana, chia seeds, oat milk, ice

Supplementing your natural skincare routine with foods that are healthy for your gut will visibly impact the texture and appearance of your complexion. Your skin is closely connected to the microbiome of your stomach. So, if you're eating foods that are rich in antioxidants and low in refined sugars, and incorporate this into your daily diet, your skin will reflect the healthy choices you've made for your gut.

We had so much fun shopping at our local co-op for ingredients for this smoothie recipe that is specifically intended to release toxins from your skin, block free radicals, and improve the overall health of your skin cells.

Smoothie Ingredients

We aren't including any step-by-step instructions, because all you need to do is throw all these ingredients in a blender and whip it up!

  • 1 Small Handful of Ice

  • 3/4 Cups of Oat Milk

  • 1 Tbs of Chia Seeds

  • 1 Handful of Raspberries

  • 1 Handful of Blueberries

  • 1/2 Banana
  • Gut & Skin Beneifts of Each Ingredient

Bananas: Great source of Vitamin B6 + Vitamin C. One decent sized banana provides a little over 10% of the body's daily manganese requirements. Manganese helps with collagen production and provides skin cells with the fighting power to ward off free radicals.

Kale: Great source of beta-carotene , which the body converts to Vitamin A. Kale is a powerful antioxidant, and it improves digestion. The presence of antioxidants, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C make Kale a player in reducing the signs of premature aging.

Raspberries + Blueberries: Berries are one of the most potent sources of antioxidants that help to protect the skin from free radicals and cell damage, meaning your skin is less likely to show the premature signs of aging. Eating just 1 cup of blueberries a day can improve the flow of nutrients and oxygen to the skin. If you feel like your skin needs to be rejuvenated, incorporate more berries into your diet!

Chia Seeds: Powerful antioxidants + full of magnesium, which helps to reduce the stress hormone, cortisol. Chia seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which strengthen hair, nails, and skin, reduce inflammation and dryness, and preserve collagen.

Oat Milk: The reason why we chose oat milk is because, as you may know, dairy isn't the best for the skin. Oat Milk has a high concentration of Vitamins B + B12, which like the other ingredients we've listed, help repair the skin, reduce the signs of pre-mature aging, and fight oxidative damage.
